VT Astronomy Observatory Open House
Public Open Houses will be held on Friday evenings when classes are in session during the Fall and Spring Semesters, weather permitting. The docent(s) conducting the Open House will use the telescope to show various interesting objects visible in the night sky (the Moon, if visible, any visible planets, interesting stellar objects, nebulae, galaxies, any bright comets,...).

Where: Prices Fork Observatory.  Travel west on Prices Fork Road in Blacksburg towards Radford. Pass Kipps Elementary School, turn right on Old Mill Road (just before Cox's Driving Range). Travel about 1/2 mile on Old Mill Road. There is a gate on the right, beyond which you can see the Observatory  ( it looks like a short silo.

When: 8:30 PM 8:30 EST

Who: All welcome!

How: To find out if a particular Open House will occur as scheduled call 540-231-5719 after 6pm (when EST is in effect), or after 7pm (when EDT is in effect). A recorded message will tell you if the observatory will be open that evening. Please close the gate after driving through --- the area surrounding the Observatory is a Tech pasture.

Wilderness Trail Festival

2011 marks the 38th anniversary of the Kiwanis Wilderness Trail Festival and the third year with the Kiwanis Club of Christiansburg as the managing organization. The festival is always a full day of fun and excitement for the entire family loaded with great local artisans and crafters, Blue Ridge Model A's and Car Cruise In featuring classic cars & street rods, children's area, craft demonstrators, and delicious food from area restaurants and other local vendors.

The Kiwanis Wilderness Trail Festival takes place in downtown Christiansburg, Exit 114 off I-81.

We will be featuring local acts such as Dancer's Dreams, VA Techniques, Henry's TaeKwon-Do, Mike Petersen's Kempo Karate, Christiansburg High School's Chamber Ensemble, The American Arrow Band, Olan Gardner, MSBC, and Allegheny Strings! Pizza Inn will host it's Annual Pizza Eating Contest at 12pm! Don't miss it!

Star Wars event with Tom Angeleberger

Sunday Sounds at Chateau Morrisette


Bring the family on Sunday afternoons June through October for live music in the courtyard at no charge. Local and regional musicians and entertainers will brighten up your day and keep your wallet fat. Grilled foods, soft drinks and wine available for purchase beginning at noon or bring your own picnic.

Sunday Afternoon Jam


Traditional Bluegrass and Mountain Music Jams. Acoustic musicians of all levels are invited to come and play in an informal “round” style jam. This is an event dedicated to the sharing of the musical tradition and stories of this area– another way to enjoy the music and energy of Floyd.
