Holiday Gift Recipe

Have you ever tried Harry and David's Moose Munch?  It is delicious.  You will pay $29.95 for 24 oz.

I stumbled upon a copycat recipe a couple of years ago and now it is my go to holiday gift as it is surprisingly easy.

It calls for Crunch n Munch, so I hope you got the deal from Amazon (but if you didn't, it still makes for an inexpensive treat at the regular price).

Here it is:

Copy Cat Moose Munch

16oz Toffee Popcorn, such as Crunch n Munch
1 14oz. pkg Chocolate Candy Melts
1 14 oz pkg White Candy Melts
 1 bag Broken Pretzels
Assorted Nuts (Pecans, Cashews, Almonds)

Melt candy according to package instructions.  Mix together popcorn, pretzels and nuts.  Pour the chocolate over half of the popcorn mixture, pour the white chocolate over the other half.  Spread mixtures on a cookie sheet covered with wax or parchment paper.  Let cool and harden.  Place in the fridge to speed up the process, if desired.  Once hardened, break into smaller pieces.  Store in an airtight container.

This recipe is very forgiving.  The toffee popcorn coated with the melts is delicious as it is.  You can add just pretzels or just nuts, whatever combination you like.  Sometimes, I add toffee bits or M&Ms.  You can also use melted chocolate chips or almond bark for the coating.  I have used different colored melts depending on the holiday.  I made pink and red Moose Munch one year for Valentine's day.  You can purchase the melts at Michael's, don't forget your coupon!  You can find almond bark and chocolate chips at the grocery store-usually on sale for the holidays.

I like to package this in a cellophane bag and tie with a ribbon to give for gifts.

Amazon Deal: Crunch n Munch Toffee Popcorn $.45/box

Here is a great deal that probably won't last very long.  You can get Crunch n Munch for $.45 per box when you use Subscribe & Save.  Subscribe & Save is completely free and you can cancel anytime after your order is processed.  Just click the link above to order and choose "Subscribe & Save" in the right hand column to get the 15% discount.  Shipping is free!

Great Deal on Skippy Natural Peanut Butter

Currently, you can get Skippy Natural Peanut Butter (Creamy or Super Chunk) for $1.80 per 15oz. jar on when you choose Subscribe & Save.  By choosing Subscribe & Save, the price will be reduced by 15%.  Click the links above to order, then choose Subscribe & Save in the right hand column.

Remember, that once you sign up for Subscribe & Save, you can cancel after your order has been processed.  If you want to cancel, you just click on "my account", then click on "subscriptions" to choose to cancel.  I have personally done this several times with no issue.

You may have heard that Peanut Butter prices are on the rise (up by 20%-40%) due to a poor peanut crop this year so this is a great deal, especially since it is shipped right to you.

Food Lion Deals!

Every once in a while, Food Lion has some bargains.  Their "Big Deal" promotion is going on now through Oct. 25.  Here's what I scored today:

4 14oz. boxes Cheerios
2 boxes Kelloggs Fiber Plus Cereal
4 Pillsbury Biscuit Sandwich
8 Yoplait Greek Yogurt
2 Pillsbury Orange Rolls

Not on their Big Deal Sale:

4 Steamfresh Vegetables
2 All Detergent

I also bought meat(discounted) and snacks for school lunches(without coupons!).

Total items:  36
Spent:  $40.71
Coupons Tendered:  $46.86

Click here to find all of the coupon match-ups I used. There is a forum for Food Lion on

A few notes about shopping at Food Lion:

-Make a list of the Big Deal items you are planning to buy or grab a Big Deal Flier by the register/customer service-it has all of the Big Deal items listed for you.

-Make sure you get the right sized item(for example, there are 3 sizes of Cheerios boxes, make sure you get the one that is tagged for the Big Deal)

-The weekly ad is somewhat confusing.  I really had to pay attention to what was a Big Deal item versus what was just on sale.

-Make sure you have the correct increment of items.  You have to buy either 10, 20, or 30 items to get either $5, $10 or $15 back.  One way to help keep track is to place ten items at a time in your reusable bags as you shop.  It's easier to count ten items at a time than thirty.

Sound confusing?  It's designed that way.  You have to pay attention in order to get the best deals.  Since I don't usually shop at Food Lion, I had to go up and down each aisle to find everything.  Make sure you leave yourself enough time to shop.
