Tips for Ethical Couponing

In order to keep couponing fun for everyone, there are some guidelines that must be followed.

Here are a few tips:

-Coupons are distributed by manufacturers. Retailers are reimbursed by the manufacturers plus the cost of handling.

-Some stores have their own coupons, called a "store coupon".  You can use a store coupon with a manufacturer coupon-this is called, "stacking".  If you read the fine print on a coupon, you can determine whether it is a "store" coupon or a "manufacturer" coupon.

- Read the find print on a coupon and make sure to use it as the wording states.  Check the quantity, size, etc so that you are not denied at the register.  I've made this mistake plenty of times, often when I pick up the wrong size.

-Don't ever photocopy coupons, printable or otherwise!  Photocopying coupons is coupon fraud.  Retailers are only reimbursed for legitimate coupons.  Many stores are reducing the number of printable coupons they accept because people are using counterfeit coupons.

When your cashier is scrutinizing a printable coupon, it is because he or she is checking for the watermark.  If you print a coupon from coupons.com, the watermark is in the expiration date box(either light yellow dots, if in color, or light gray dots, if printed in black and white).
Check it out by printing the new high value Aveeno coupon above-just click the image!

Sources for Printable Coupons

Did you know that there are many online sources for printable coupons?

This is great because it means that you don't necessarily have to subscribe to any newspaper to cash in on the savings.  Printables alone can really help you to save a lot of money.

Is it worth the printer ink?  I think so, especially if it's a high dollar printable.

You can set your printer to print the coupons in the "draft" and/or to print only in black and white to make your ink go farther.

Here are my favorite online sources:

M&M's for $.50 per bag and a recipe!

There is a great deal at Walgreen's through 9/24 with this coupon.  Click here to print.

Buy 4 bags of M&M's on sale 2/$5
Use 2 $1.50/2 coupons
Pay $7.00
Get back $5 in Register Rewards
Total:  $.50/bag

You can use these coupons on any variety of M&M's.  I love to use M&M's in place of chocolate chips when I make chocolate chip cookies, and for $.50 a bag, this makes for some very inexpensive treats.

Here's my Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe (I have spent years searching for the perfect recipe, and this is it!)

Best Chocolate Chip Cookies EVER!

1 cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs (room temp if possible)
1 teaspoon pure vanilla
3 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips OR use your M&M's!

Cream butter, brown sugar and white sugar together in a mixer. Then add the eggs, one at a time. Beat until creamy. Add the vanilla.

In another bowl mix the dry ingredients together before slowly adding them to the creamed mixture. When combined, stop the mixer and add the semi-sweet chips. Mix and then drop by the teaspoonful onto an ungreased cookie sheet. Mold them into a ball, if desired(If you are using M&M's, put them on top of your cookies after you have formed the ball so they don't get crushed).

Bake on 350 degrees for 8 minutes(Do not overbake!). Place on wire rack to cool. Enjoy!
